Alligator Creek Bed and Breakfast near Townsville
The Best of Both Worlds
One thing that many guests say when they leave is, 'We wish we'd stayed longer'. Don't miss out on all the great things to do in the area. Look at what there is to do here
After three years without a price rise we are having to make a small increase, but longer stays are still at the same bargain price. Take a look here.
Located just 25 minutes drive from all the attractions of Townsville, 5 minutes from the wonderful Billabong Sanctuary and 2 minutes from the Bowling Green Bay National Park our environmentally friendly Bed and Breakfast allows you to get full enjoyment from the area, while providing a peaceful sanctuary.
Our comfortable solar-powered home is set in 5 acres, just 2 Km off the main highway south of Townsville. Beautiful Alligator Creek meanders through the property which we share with a wide variety of birds and wildlife. Wallabies and possums are regular visitors while resident birds include a pair of Bush Stone Curlews who often have an egg or youngster in their care. The gorgeous Sunbirds occasionally make nests around the house and a large population of frogs and lizards is testament to the care we give to our stunning environment.
Guest accommodation consists of 2 bedrooms and a spacious, recently-renovated bathroom (bathrobes are provided). One room has a queen bed and the other has a convertible king/twin bed. Two indoor sitting areas are available to guests and there are ample places around the house and property for you to sit and enjoy the surroundings. Our pool is available for those who want some exercise or a leisurely splash, and because it has a shade-sail in summer and solar blanket in winter it is generally usable year-round.
To enhance your peaceful experience and to encourage guests to get to know each other we do not have televisions in the rooms but TV and DVDs plus a variety of games and books are available for guest use.
Guests are welcome to roam around our gardens and orchards or walk quietly through the wildlife areas. The wellbeing of our wildlife and reduced use of chemicals is our priority so you won't find any pristine lawns and super-neat flower beds, but you will enjoy the variety of (sometimes rare) plants that we grow. Most of the property is flat and easily accessible but the wildlife habitat near the creek is sloping and left unmowed so appropriate footwear is necessary.
We believe that our guests should have a choice of breakfast, and as far as possible you will be offered dishes grown in our own garden or produced locally. These will include, for example, home-grown pesticide-free tomatoes and herbs, home-made yoghurt, home-made jams and marmalades from our own fruit, home-baked bread and fresh or preserved fruits. (see our menu here and some of my recipes here). Depending on the season you may be offered mangoes (our main produce) or such delights as mulberries, pawpaw, carambola, grumichama or dragon fruit.
Tariff - For two people in one room: $110 for 1 night, $200 for 2 nights, $280 for three...including breakfasts each morning. Click here for full details.
Your hosts, Helen and Colin Holmes, originally from England, have lived in Australia for more than twenty years, residing in Victoria, then New South Wales before moving to Alligator Creek eleven years ago. We have traveled extensively in Europe and lived for a short while on the West Coast of USA. When our children left home we decided to leave Sydney and our full time jobs and move to a quieter life near Townsville.
The property originally contained just mango trees and a few gums and creek natives but after planting hundreds of trees and shrubs we now provide diverse habitats and have seen the wildlife increase greatly. We feel that this place is so beautiful we ought to share it with others.
Travelling with pets?
We do not have facilities to take pets but just around the corner is 'All for Paws Pet Retreat'. So while you are enjoying our hospitality your dog or cat can also have a great holiday. Check the website on our 'Useful Links' page.
